“Sculptural Trees”, acrylic on canvas, 60 x 60 cm/ 23.6 x 23.6 in., 2021, is part of my Forest Series. As I was walking in the dune forests in De Haan in January 2021, I noticed that some of the twisting trees seemed to have lost their bark and were thus a very light cream colour. This light colour and the smoothness of the wood reminded me of the driftwood I have seen along Canadian shores. Various tree branches were leaning into other trees in collapsed poses, tangled and intertwining or, as a friend of mine put it, their entanglement seemed like dancing. I liked the composition of the swirling branches leaning against sturdier trees and the contrast between the light and dark colours. As backdrop, the winter sky was a clear light blue and the foliage on the ground was both dark and soft. I knew this scene would be the next I would paint after finishing my first painting of 2021, “Winter Path”.
This painting is outfitted with a thin metal wire held in place with two eyehook screws, making for easy hanging on your wall. A certificate of authenticity (COA) is included with the purchase of this painting.
