Description
“Joyful Blossoms”, acrylic on canvas, 100 x 80 cm/39 x 31.5 in., 2022 is a commissioned project. I was very excited to be asked to make a painting inspired by the season of Spring and blossoms in particular. The collector wanted the main colours of the painting to be bright pinks and greens with a mood of joy and celebration. Spring blossoms transported the collector to memories of holidays and I kept this mind during the painting process. I took inspiration from the variety of cherry blossoms that can have up to one hundred petals per flower. These flowers are pink puffs that pop against the green leafy background.
Stephanie –
Laura’s painting transforms my office into a very homely space. I sent her some photos that I took in England of scenes reminding me of spring. We talked a lot about colours and the feelings they provoke in me.
Since I’m not a big fan of too much blue, for instance, Laura added warm yellow shades to the sky, which reminds me of those first sunny days in March that I love so much.
I loved the process almost as much as I love the painting, since we really took our time, and I didn’t feel rushed to take quick decisions. This will definitely not be my last ‘Laura Smith’!
