When I think back to this moment from the summer of 2019, I can still feel the hot sun beating down as I looked out to the bay on the coast of my home province of New Brunswick. I had taken several photographs of this boardwalk platform from a frontal view as I was struck by the bright orange against the green landscape and the brilliant blue summer sky. The most important element, for me, in this 40 x 30 cm (15.7 x 11.8 in.) painting, part of my Canada Series, is the light: the yellow-white highlights on the railing in contrast with the deep purple shadows on the boardwalk that portrays that time of high noon. The overall mood, for me, is one of summer heat and the beauty of the expansive landscape.
