“De Haan Landscape Shadows”, acrylic on canvas, 23.5 x 30 cm/9.3 x 11.8 in., 2020 is part of my Forest Series. It is based on the daily walks I took in the forest-dune landscape of the Belgian coastal town. While making this painting I was focused on the curved organic shapes of the trees and the bright light of a sunny spring day. When I look at the painting now, I see this optimism but also the emptiness of the path and the shadows on the forest floor which remind me of the quiet of this time.
